Smart Start Teen Club Loan

For eligible teens, the Smart Start Teen Club Loan offers an introduction to borrowing, making payments and handling a financial commitment.

A qualified person over the age of 18 is required as a co-signer.

Visa Credit Card

Eligible teens may also have the opportunity to begin learning how credit works through a small Firelands FCU Visa credit card with a qualified person over the age of 18 as a co-signer.

Learning about money goes beyond the account.

Build money skills with Zogo

Members get free access to Zogo, a financial-literacy app that makes learning about money more engaging through bite-sized lessons and rewards.

Everyday money moments can teach a lot.

You don’t need a formal lesson plan to help your child build good habits. Real-life decisions give them chances to learn along the way.

Give saving a goal.

Help them choose something they want to save for and track their progress.

Talk through spending decisions.

Learning when to spend — and when to wait — can be just as valuable as learning to save.

Add responsibility over time.

A savings account may be the first step. Checking, debit cards, borrowing and credit can come later as they’re ready.

Keep the conversation open.

Questions and mistakes are part of learning. Having someone they can talk to can make early money decisions easier to navigate.
